Tips for Great Parent-Teacher Communication
With the first day of school around the corner, many parents have a lot of worry about who will be teaching their child and how will they be able to communicate with them.
Before you start emailing a long list of concerns or questions, you may wish to check out this list of suggestions to start the year off with a great partnership with your child's teacher.
1) Check your school's policies about how they prefer parents to communicate with teachers. Some teachers prefer not to use email, instead like to chat on the phone or in person.
2) If you are emailing, keep your notes short. Teachers are very busy and will likely respond more quickly when the message is brief.
3) If you have a concern to share with the teacher, make an appointment to meet. Personal or family issues related to your child are best shared in confidence.
4) If you choose to call your child's teacher, please note that it may take some time before they are able to return you call.
5) Please share any health concerns, family changes and extra-curricular schedules with the teacher. It is most important that both of you have a focus on the social, emotional and academic well-being of your child.
6) Don't forget a quick note of thanks every so often. Teachers value this feedback and appreciate your support.
